Crowheart Butte, Wyoming
Our Company Name
Crowheart Butte, in Wyoming’s Wind River Valley, marks a historic battleground between Chief Washakie of the Shoshone Tribe and Chief Big Shadow of the Crow Tribe. In 1866, the two Chiefs fought for supremacy of the butte given its strategic importance for hunting buffalo. Following a five-day battle Chief Washakie prevailed, claiming rights to the butte and surrounding Wind River hunting grounds. Admired for his courage and persisting fight, Chief Washakie praised and honored Chief Big Shadow by naming the butte after the Crow Tribe – Crowheart Butte. In recognition of this historic battle within the region of our operations, we named our company Crowheart Energy.
